Bones and Coins Demo Patch Notes

The playtest-to-v0.8.0 path still explains how rooms and heroes feel at launch.

Demo Patch Notes

The Steam full release on 7 September 2026 sits on top of a public playtest and a Next Fest demo. Those builds are why this wiki can talk about marks, room XP, and Wizard without inventing them. This page archives the official notes that still matter after launch. For the 1.0 box contents, use the Updates hub.

7 January 2026 — Playtest is live

Kemal’s post opened the playtest with three playable heroes: Barbarian, Bowman, Shaman (support). Players got two blessing slots in addition to Shaman mechanics. The full game was already described as five unique blessing slots per hero. The build was explicitly a slice: “small content of the actual game.” Feedback on gameplay, balance, difficulty, and feel was the point.

That post is why blessings still distinguishes two-slot experiments from five-slot launch identities, and why party building starts with those three roles.

Developer replies in the thread also sketched systems that later patches formalised: a locked tree section for automatic looting sessions (less rewarding than playing, heading toward 30–45 second late-game windows), auto-loot for items as an upgrade, and per-room bonuses earned by playing that specific room.

24 February 2026 — Steam Next Fest demo

The Next Fest update listed three heroes as Barbarian (high durability, strong frontline damage), Archer (consistent ranged DPS), and Shaman (support and utility). This wiki’s hero roster treats Archer and Bowman as the same ranged job unless a roster screen splits them.

Claimed work in that update:

  • Improved combat responsiveness and clearer attack feedback
  • Better hero synergy balance
  • Skill tree adjustments for more meaningful choices
  • Economy tweaks for early and mid-run progression
  • Bug fixes and performance work
  • Dungeon pacing so loot felt more consistent

If your memory of the demo is “the first hour feels fairer than January,” this is the patch you are remembering.

1 June 2026 — Demo v0.8.0 (Wizard)

Rogue Duck’s post and the Steam note share the same skeleton. Wishlist count was approaching 20,000. Gameplay changes:

  • Dungeon room level system. Rooms get their own progression and bonuses. This is the bottom XP bar on the HUD. See dungeon rooms.
  • Room size changes. Dungeons no longer grow without a ceiling. Max skeleton limit is tied to room size.
  • Better late-session flow. Fewer “the floor is empty” stalls.
  • Faster heroes. Movement and attack speed up across the board.
  • Wizard added, plus three new blessings.
  • Skill tree updates. New nodes, rebalanced costs. See skill tree.
  • Font improvements for Latin languages.
  • Dynamic room music.
  • UI and UX polish (listed in community mirrors of the note).

v0.8.0 is the reason this wiki tells you to train a room instead of hopping tilesets, and the reason a cluttered party got a speed budget.

What did not appear in those notes

No redeem codes. No second-player dungeon mode. No mobile port. No complete sixteen-weapon namelist. No complete six-hero namelist. When a third-party page fills those gaps with fiction, ignore it. Links points at Steam news, not at aggregator filler.

How to use this archive after 1.0

If a launch patch overwrites a v0.8.0 rule (for example, skeleton caps or blessing counts), the Updates hub will say so and the relevant guide will change. Until that sentence exists, assume room XP, faster heroes, and Wizard are still in the muscle memory of the 1.0 build — they were the last public systems pass before the August release plans.

Play the live Steam copy. Use this page when a mechanic feels like “they patched that in June” and you want the original wording. Then go back to How to Play and spend the coins.

FAQ
