Bones and Coins Heroes
Four named classes from demo and playtest, six in the full Steam roster.
Heroes are the auto-battler half of Bones and Coins. You hover the torch; they walk, swing, mark, and proc without extra clicks. The full Steam release lists six recruitable heroes. Public playtest and demo notes only name four: Barbarian, Bowman (called Archer in Steam Next Fest copy), Shaman, and Wizard. This hub will not invent the last two names. It will tell you how the four revealed kits fit a party so you can leave slots open for whatever Troyd Games actually shipped.
Recruiting happens in the Guild tab after the skill tree pays for a party slot. Getting Started wants the Barbarian in that first hole. Everything after that is a role conversation, which continues on party building and blessings. Rankings live on the hero tier list. Exclusive skeleton parts are covered on enemies.
Barbarian — frontline durability
Official Next Fest blurb: high durability, strong frontline damage. Playtesters hired him around the first 50-coin spike. He is the body that lets you stop staring at the torch for a second. Guild talk in videos includes a “skilled sword” style upgrade and on-kill scaling. He is not a support. If your first hire is a caster, the pack walks onto your cursor and you wonder why the idle layer feels fake.
Bowman / Archer — ranged DPS and execute
January playtest notes say Bowman. February Next Fest notes say Archer. Same job: consistent ranged DPS. Stream callouts for the kit include a chance to attack instantly, a chance to instantly kill enemies below 50% health, bonus damage to full-health targets, and an extra arrow every third attack in a random direction. That is a pack-cleaner, not a tank. He wants a Barbarian holding the pile and a Shaman making the next hit count.
Shaman — mark support
Listed as a support unit from day one of the playtest. The mark kit described on stream: nearby enemies get marked; marked targets take 50% more damage from the next attack. That multiplier is why this wiki’s build tier list treats Shaman as core instead of optional flavour. Playtest builds also gave two blessing slots on top of the Shaman’s own mechanics. Full game: five blessing slots per hero.
Wizard — demo v0.8.0 addition
On 1 June 2026 the demo added Wizard plus three new blessings. Public notes do not publish a full spell list. Footage from later incremental runs shows caster-looking portraits and lightning-style procs that may be tree nodes rather than the hero. Until a patch note spells the kit, treat Wizard as the fourth revealed body: a backline caster you add after mark support exists, not a first recruit.
The two unnamed full-release heroes
The August 2026 Steam post is unambiguous: six recruitable heroes with different abilities and upgrade paths. Two names were not in the demo notes. When you meet them in the Guild, slot them by function — another frontline, another mark, a second ranged — using the same questions on party building. Do not rebuild the entire skill tree around an untested sixth kit on day one.
Guild, blessings, and Expeditions
Guild is where you hire, path, and bless. Blessings are how two Barbarian-plus-Bowman parties stop being identical; read blessings before you spend rare currency on a sticker. Expeditions, new in the full game, are extra challenges that expect a finished party, not a solo torch.
Heroes also show DPS on the left of the combat HUD. Use that number to catch a dead slot, not to fire the Shaman because the Barbarian’s parse is higher. Marks do not always show as personal DPS.
When you know the four kits, open the hero tier list for launch-week ranking, the party planner for slot order, and Updates if a patch changes a kit name or slot count.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How many heroes are in Bones and Coins?
Six in the full Steam release. Playtest and demo notes name Barbarian, Bowman/Archer, Shaman, and Wizard. The last two were not named in those posts.
Is Bowman the same as Archer?
They fill the same ranged role. January playtest text says Bowman; Steam Next Fest text says Archer. This wiki treats them as that ranged kit unless a patch lists two separate recruits.
Who should I recruit first?
Barbarian, after you buy a party slot. Then Shaman, then Bowman. See Getting Started and party building.
Where do I recruit heroes?
The Guild tab in town, next to Skill Tree, Blacksmith, Inventory, and Expeditions. You need a party slot from the skill tree first.
